Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a mailing/email list and how do I get on it?

Yes. TERA has a mailing list that is updated each year at the conference. Joining TERA is the easiest way to get your contact information on our mailing list. You can also join our email list here.

How many people usually attend the conference?

+/-125. The TERA conference draws between 100-150 practitioners, mostly from Texas but some as far as Colorado and Iowa.

What do I need to bring to the conference?

Other than the traditional overnight gear, bring bedding, clothing for all weather, swim suit and don't forget your towel! Other stuff... flashlight, climbing harness/helmet, musical instruments, games, toys, a T-shirt for T-shirt exchange, fishing poles, sports equipment, camera, networking materials and any other fun stuff you may have.

Can I get Continuing Education Units at the conference?

Yes. CEU's are sponsored by TX A&M University and are general accredited CEU credits. They are not specific to particular disciplines (i.e. MSW, TR, LCDC). The fee is approximately $15, which pays for as many credits as you get. About 85% of the workshops are accredited and available for CEU's.

Where do the presenters come from?

All Over. You will find a variety of presenters willing to share their experience and expertise with you. Most of the presenters are Texas-based practitioners who have expertise or a particular interest in experiential education. We also have dynamic keynote speakers and great pre-conference sessions, which draw practitioners from across the country.

Who is eligible to present a workshop?

Anyone. We would love for you to present a workshop. There are no strict requirements. We learn from each other…that's how it works. So if you want to practice your presentation skills or you have a particular interest or you just want to get a group together to discuss a specific topic- host a workshop. Workshops for beginners, intermediate and advanced practitioners are welcome. Sessions for corporate, education, counseling, probation, adventure, ministry. We ask that you submit a Call for Presenters Form, resume', Bio or Vita to the address on the form and please be sure to site all references in writing.

How are conference sites chosen?

TERA rotates conference sites throughout the state of Texas. The sites change each year and we try to move around the state to make travel fair for all. We have specific requirements that must be met to enable us to choose a site but we are always open to new locations. So, if you have a site that will hold at least 175 people, has ropes course, indoor/outdoor meeting spaces, food and would be interested in hosting a conference…give us a call! We are always looking for new adventures.

What are my payment options for the conference?

TERA accepts cash, check or credit card. On-line registartion is now available to conferences and credit cards are accepted through our secured web-site or at the door. PO #'s are also accepted.

Can my family attend?

TERA is mindful that you may want to bring family members to the conference but we are not prepared to provide activities or sitting services for them.  TERA does not carry liability insurance to cover us in the event of incident to children.  Please contact us with specific questions concerning your needs.

What kinds of evening activities are scheduled?

When the sun goes down…the craziness begins. Great evening activities are always on the go. Group games, campfire sing-a-longs, dances, Sweat Lodge, a t-shirt exchange, a night climb and who could forget…..Mafia! Guaranteed fun for all!

Can I get a vegetarian meal?

Yes! Many of our members have vegetarian dietary requests, and most camps can provide that with no problems. Please specify those requests on your registration form.

Do I have options with my lodging?

Yes. Most conference sites offer a variety of lodging options. These options vary each year depending on the facility. The most common options are tent camping, cabins or single/double hotel style rooms. Refer to the registration form for lodging choices and fees.

Are there places to go off-site at night?

It depends. Some conference sites are near towns with nightlife but others are far into the hill country where evening entertainment is further away. I can assure you there will plenty of activities at the camp to keep you involved.
